What The Heck Is Reiki And Why Do We Care?

Reiki (pronounced “ray-key“) is a hands-on healing system from Japan. It had been re-discovered in the late 1800’s by Dr. Mikao Usui of Kyoto. I had the absolute blessing to learn it in Japan as Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, the Usui System of Natural Healing.

First off, I started with a treatment – here’s what happens:

At a session the recipient lies fully clothed (except for jewelry, belt buckles, and shoes) on a massage table.

Reiki’s perfectly balanced vibrational frequency is brought to you by the practitioner. Reiki always works for the highest good of the recipient. Reiki always works. The recipient is brought into a deeply relaxing state by Reiki and she usually feels a sense of warmth, security, and comfort.

The practitioner’s own energy steps out of the way, ever present yet out of the way. The channel must remain open and clear for the energy to pass through. There must be no manipulation from the practitioner whether hands on or intent. The spiritual healing will take place in the manner that is perfect for the recipient at the time of the session. Reiki naturally reduces stress and encourages clarity and vitality.

Bottom line: It rocks

Qigong Master, Rev. Barbara Matsuura, RMT

I knew the minute I met Rev. Barbara Matsuura that we would be connected. Our energies just downright ‘jived.’ My teacher (Sensei – meaning ‘the one that goes before me’).

Barbara has always been a spiritual and health-conscious person. In Tokyo, Barbara found that energy healing was gentle and very effective for treating oneself and others, and became a Reiki Master Teacher. She also became a Qigong Healer and Beauty Rejuvenation Specialist after studying with a renowned Master from Beijing, China. Back in the days when she was still a dancer in New York she self-studied Shiatsu to help her fellow ballet dancers and her father who was a firefighter get relief from such demanding work. In Tokyo then she studied formally and became a Zen Shiatsu practitioner.

I’m really thrilled to be able to bring and share what I learned in Japan to my own patients. I am now certified in Reiki 1 – very legit, from it’s original location in Japan. Boo-ya!
