Hi y’all,  its Brooke Foreman again, Dr. Edgerton’s “travelin'” Acupuncturist at Premier Health and Wellness.  In this newsletter, I’ve included lots of pics, learnings and experiences from my trip to Japan last month, how to ‘Give the finger’ to seasonal allergies and how to get some Righteous Reiki healing.

Happy May!

imageThis is one of my most favorite times of the year!  New plants sprouting up, cool evenings, refreshing rains and sunny days-  a feeling of renewal is everywhere.

Pictured here are the gorgeous cherry blossoms that I had the honor of witnessing this past month in Japan.  Breathtaking.

 Tall blonde amazon experiences Toyko

How do you sum up a life-changing trip to Japan for 3 weeks?  It’s gonna be hard, but I’ll do my best to be short, sweet and filled with pics.
Imagine:  a tall, tan, big chested Texas acupuncturist that doesn’t speak Japanese arrives in Toyko, a city of 23 million people.  -let’s just say I ‘stuck’ out….

Respect.
Japanese people are ridiculously proud of their country and culture-with good reason.   Everything is elegant, clean and proper.  They are always willing to help- literally falling all over themselves to make sure you are happy.

So Clean.  Even the taxi drivers wear white gloves and have white doilies on the seats!  what? Here’s an example of the respect I’m talking about- when going up elevators, everyone steps to the left to allow others to pass by if they need to.  Wow.  Some even wear surgical masks so that they don’t give you their germs!  Crazy.

Here’s what I learned: New people, food, and definitely unique experiences.   More

Give allergies the finger!  well, fingers…and a thumb

Is this a jedi mind trick or acupressure?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had it with these Texas Allergies.  Have you ever wanted to know the pressure points to relieve allergy symptoms?  Let’s get pokin’.

7 points total:

3 points with each finger:

Bladder 2 (BL2): middle finger (hehehe) goes on the edge of each eyebrow.

Stomach 2 (ST2):  under the eye, edge of orbital above the cheek

Large Intestine 20 (LI20):  just to the sides of the nostrils

Got it.  Now you need to know HOW to poke.

Large Intestine 20, the points outside the nostrils, should be pressed diagonally upward, as if you are aiming for your eye on the opposite side.  Stomach 2, the points below the eye, should be pressed downward towards the mouth.  Bladder 2, the ones on the eyebrow, should be pressed upward toward the top of the head.

Those of you that are good at math realize that that is only 6 points.  The 7th is mentioned above on the inside of the left ankle bone, Spleen 5 (SP5)  This point is important for dampness and helps to clear it, ex. stuffy nose, phlegm and watery eyes.  I just cross my left ankle up onto my leg and finger it with my thumb.

See? don’t you feel better?- Enjoy breathing through both nostrils this Memorial Day Weekend!

Or just come on it and I’ll give you a treatment- you don’t have to suffer.  See blog for more

 Righteous Reiki

While in Tokyo I apprenticed and certified in Reiki Level 1 Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, the Usui System of Natural Healing under Rev. Barbara Matsuura, Tai Chi and Reiki Master.

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a hands-on healing system from Japan.  The word reiki is made up of 2 Japanese words:  Rei- which means “God’s wisdom or higher power” and Ki- meaning Qi, Chi, Prana or life force energy.  Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self improvement that everyone can use.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you.  Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit. After my treatments I felt ‘in my body again’, cared for and less scattered.  Most feel beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being.  Very powerful stuff here.

In the past I had met Reiki practitioners that were nurses, care givers, pastors and massage therapists.  I felt that these treatments would be a great addition to our ‘healing family.’  I’m thrilled to be able to bring what I learned in Japan to my patients in Austin-  Very legit.  Training directly from the source: JAPAN!  Boo ya!  More

Try a treatment- I know you’ll love it, as I did and do.   30 min or 60 min Reiki can be a stand alone treatment or used as an enhancement to your massage or acupuncture treatments.
